KUNDSA and KUSAN United for a Successful Free Health Screening Exercise at Kisii University
On 19th October 2024, the Kisii University Main Grounds came alive with a spirit of collaboration, learning, and community service as the Kisii University Nutrition and Dietetics Students Association (KUNDSA) partnered with the Kisii University Association of Nurses (KUSAN) to host a Free Health Screening Exercise. The event was a testament to the university’s commitment to promoting preventive healthcare and empowering individuals to take charge of their well-being.
The exercise attracted students, staff, and members of the surrounding community, providing them with an opportunity to access vital health services at no cost. The initiative sought not only to detect potential health issues early but also to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead healthier lives.
KUNDSA played a central role in the event, spearheading key activities designed to address nutrition-related health concerns. Health screening was carried out to gather essential health indicators such as weight, height, and blood pressure. Nutrition assessment, particularly through Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements, enabled participants to understand their nutritional status and identify potential risks associated with undernutrition, overweight, or obesity.
One of the highlights of the day was nutrition education and counseling, where participants received personalized dietary advice tailored to their individual health needs. These sessions emphasized practical solutions for improving diet quality, managing existing health conditions, and preventing future complications. Complementing this was an engaging health talk on lifestyle diseases, which shed light on conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases. The talk underscored the role of balanced nutrition, physical activity, and lifestyle modification in combating these health challenges.
The partnership between KUNDSA and KUSAN exemplified the power of interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare. By combining expertise in nutrition and nursing, the two associations demonstrated that addressing health holistically yields more impactful outcomes. The event not only improved health awareness but also reinforced the critical role of young professionals in shaping a healthier society.
